The first series of the Home Refashion Challenge has seen the contestants restyle vintage menswear. Their creations were a mixture of vintage and contemporary styles. Each episode focuses on a different theme. This season, the refashion challenge is a winter one, with challenges focusing on keeping warm and adding sparkle. The challenges ranged from a man’s flannel shirt to a made-to-measure festive party dress. In later episodes, the challenges have taken on themes inspired by music and movies. One challenge involved a Dirty Dancing inspired dress and another involved a dress from the disco era inspired by Dreamgirls.
Hazel learned to sew from her aunt when she was a child, and has stayed in the sewing industry after the birth of her son. She enjoys creating matching outfits for her husband and children. Unfortunately, she had to leave the GBSB in week four. Peter is a deputy manager at a Youth Hostel in Brighton. He draws his inspiration from fashion icons and has a dedicated sewing room in his home.
Episode one of the Great British Sewing Bee recently aired, and each episode featured three challenging tasks. All three projects incorporated refashioning of wardrobe staples. This season, the contestants were challenged to create a wrap skirt, refashion two men’s work shirts, and create a made-to-measure tea dress.
